$4K by 40 Flash Match Incentive Challenge

Thank you to Brooks & Nelson, LLC for donating to the 2023 Flash Match Campaign.

Young Leaders gave at the Monday Night Social giving just over $12,000 in donations, which was matched with a $10,000 donation by Brooks & Nelson.

Congratulations to the 2022 Recipient of the $4Kby40 Challenge Award

The 2022 $4Kby40 Challenge Award recipient is Joshua A. Patterson, President of Patterson Exploration Services in Sanford, NC. He was recognized for his generosity and support of the SME Foundation. The $4Kby40 Challenge was designed to encourage philanthropic giving by young professionals to promote the mining industry and the outreach goals of the SME Foundation. Member contributions are tracked and those donating $4,000 or more cumulatively to the Foundation’s programs by their 40th birthday are honored for their contributions and commitment to our industry. Congratulations Josh for reaching this milestone.

What is the $4K by 40 Challenge?

The Society for Mining Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) Foundation in conjunction with the SME Young Leaders Committee created a challenge for SME members under the age of 40. The $4K by 40 Challenge was designed to encourage philanthropic giving by young professionals to promote our industry and the outreach goals of the SME Foundation. Member contributions will be tracked and those donating $4,000 or more cumulatively to the Foundation’s programs by their 40^th birthday will be honored for their contributions and commitment to our industry.* Donors have the flexibility to choose the SME Foundation program to which their donations will be allocated. Qualified Employer Matching Donations will be considered as part of the member’s donations. Donations made will be jointly eligible to this challenge, the $1K Club**, and the John T. Boyd Challenge.

As of October 1, 2018, individual donors who have given $4,000 their 40^th birthday will be recognized as $4K by 40 Challenge Members. In the year of their induction, $4K by 40 Challenge members will receive:

Special recognition at the SME Foundation Annual Gala Dinner
Special recognition in the Mining Engineering magazine (March issue)
Special donor recognition on the $4K by 40 SME Foundation website - www.smefoundation.org/4Kby40
