PieLC: The SME Young Leaders' Committee
Monday Night Social Fundraiser

PieLC is the first of its kind fundraising event hosted by the SME Young Leaders Committee. The SME Leaders listed below have selected a program they would like to raise money for. The person with the most money raised is safe and gets to throw cream pies in the faces of the other participants.

You can participate in one of two ways:
1. Make a donation in support of the SME Leader you would like to save from being PIE’d.
2. Target a specific leader you would like to see PIE'd by making donations to someone else.

All donations are tax-deductible.

The contest will run from January 3rd to February 27th. The winner will be announced during the Young Leaders Monday Night Social.

Come experience the event live by purchasing tickets to the Monday Night Social during your MINEXCHANGE registration.

MINING AND EXPLORATION DIVISION SCHOLARSHIP FUND

I am the incoming Chair for the Mining & Exploration Division, and one thing our Division pride ourselves in is the amount of scholarships we provide each year. It is a great way to “pay it forward” to students looking to enter the mining industry. In particular, M&E is looking into creating a new scholarship fund for students at trade schools – with a focus on mechanical and electrical engineering – two technical areas the mining industry has had a very lean bench in recently. So please donate to this cause! We want ensure we give students a helping hand in areas that will benefit our industry as a whole.

MINERALS EDUCATION COALITION

I have always enjoyed watching young kids, even adults, be amazed at the things that can be done by a simple demonstration, whether it is chemistry, computers, or mining. The impact that experience can have on them is lasting, and key to keeping their interests in learning. The mining industry has been, and continues to be, in a crisis of image as younger generations are put off simply because they are unaware of what the jobs entail.  I believe it is critical that we find more and engaging ways to ensure the future of mining in this country. I have selected the Minerals Education Coalition for my fundraising efforts to support them in their efforts to do just this.

SME FOUNDATION

Help me support the SME Foundation's mission to "attract and leverage resources for a sustainable mining industry."  The SME Foundation supports education and outreach activities that help the mining community to teach others about minerals in our daily lives.  If we want strong support for mining we need to support the SME Foundation so that they can deliver the tools that help us deliver a message to students, teachers and other members of the general public so we can continue to provide needed minerals.

PHD FELLOWSHIP AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT GRANT PROGRAM

While I love pie, I'd never miss a chance to support the Foundation's PhD Fellowship and Career Development Grant program. This program is vital to the future of our industry and has had enormous success since it's inception, but the mission isn't over So, help me raise money for the largest and most ambitious program SME has ever undertaken, and give my fellow participants what they want - an extra large serving of pie

MINERS GIVE BACK

SME's latest fund "Miner's Give Back" (MGB) is the branch between community service and SME Global. The program celebrates local sections that do community service and come up with creative projects that have impactful results. MGB is unique in that we support all members and their community when we announce the awardee. Donating to MGB recognizes that we are more than just a professional society within an industry, we are an industry that contributes to our communities.
